About the photo-embroidery project_ We have been working with residents over the past year embroidering photographs of the buildings in Clapham Park Estate. Photo-embroidery is a simple skill to learn for all ages, and is a beautiful and unique way to commemorate a photograph. Our plan is to have a complete collection of hand-embroidered photographs with facts and anecdotes about each building, and will be exhibiting the collection at an exhibition in Spring 2021.
This project was developed by photographer Marcia Chandra in collaboration with textile artist Sonia Tuttiet (East London Textile Arts) for the Clapham Park Creative Co-op.
How to participate_ For this activity you will need embroidery supplies:
- If you are a Clapham Park neighbour you can order our Photo-embroidery Art Kit with all the materials you need. Contact us to arrange to have one ready for you to pick up at the Clapham Park Cube.
- If you’ve already been joining our workshops you need more supplies or want to do more photographs let us know and you can pick some supplies up at the Cube.
- If you live outside of the Clapham Park area, you can use your own photographs at home, and order embroidery supplies (for example, online on Amazon or click and collect at Hobbycraft).
The full list of materials you will need for this workshop:

— needle
— embroidery thread/floss (a few different colours)
— needle threader (optional)
